kitchen measurement

Teaching mise en place, or ‘everything in its place,’ is fundamental in culinary education. This lesson plan guides high school students through the principles of kitchen organization and efficiency. Mise en place is an important fundamental that students should learn before they begin cooking in the classroom or at home. As a culinary arts student, understanding mise en place will help you beyond the kitchen.

Mise en Place means “Everything in its place.” Pronounced meez ahn plass it can be one of the most important concepts to teach your middle school and high school culinary arts students as it sets your class up for organized success.

“The universe is in order when your station is set up the way you like it: you know where to find everything with your eyes closed, everything you need during the course of the shift is at the ready at arm’s reach, your defenses are deployed.”-Anthony Bourdain
